Derailed, 2005: Unrated! Sexy mystery.
Tagline: Some lines should never be crossed
or, I’m too sexy for you…
Who to look for:
Jennifer Anniston, looking good and in fine actress form. Hair was dark and unkempt – I assume on purpose. (Didn’t know her hair was that thin…)
Clive Owen. Have I ever seen him before? He has an uneven face, very tall, attractive. He has vulnerable puppy dog eyes.
Vincent Cassel: very scary man and I hated him. A redneck with a French Louisiana accent, but IRL I don’t know where the hell he comes from.
Plot
Two people who happen to be married, Charles Schine and Lucinda Harris, meet cute on the train, and slowly spend more time together. They eventually go to a hotel (the Fantasy Suite date, in Bachelor-universe) and in spite of their very good chemistry – it’s steamy – bad things happen. Very bad.
Then more complications ensue. Poor Jennifer. Then even more things.
Derailed is a complex script, and I’m surprised it didn’t get more attention. Many twists (always appreciated), and a couple of shocking things. Never a dull moment. There aren’t enough surprises in movies nowadays, so that got the plus + in my rating review.
The acting was excellent, as well. Did I mention how crazy hot Jennifer and Clive were? In fact, I just looked up whether they had an affair in real life, but Clive says, Oh no, never, happily married man. 🙂
Well, that sounds like a safe interview.
The Derailed writer is Stuart Beattie, an Australian chap. Ooh, he also wrote Collateral, another excellent movie. I think we have a winner!
Terrible DVD cover. Maybe that’s why no one saw the movie.
Unanswered questions and Ending:
Did not care for the ending of Derailed –too much innocence lost —Â but if you like revenge, here you go. And why do kids have to be in movies, anyway? Plus, I kept waiting for Charles and Lucinda to find their true love. We need more happily ever afters.
And…never asking for help from the police? Standing right in front of you?
Other Audience Reviews to Derailed
75% on Google Liked it. That’s pretty good for them.
Plugged In calls it brutal. Well, it was. It’s Not Rated! (Meaning, they don’t want an X rating.) He also pointed out, which I had already forgotten, the foreshadowing of having Charles’s daughter write a book report in the first 5 minutes about a story that’s “surprising.” Good catch! He also calls it a story of adultery and its consequences. Yeah, nope on that.
Roger Ebert didn’t like it much, but he made a funny: Luckily, the movie is set in Chicago, which means that a smart and sexy brunette with sheer stockings and high heels offers to pay for his ticket. That is so typically Chicago. Lol!
From Denise on the Amazon DVD:Â Gift for girlfriend.
That’s a wrap

Yeah, I agree. That is not a cover that screams, “Pick me up, please!” It looks like something my cat dragged in.
