Feeding Hummingbirds

To understand this cartoon, it helps if you know that hummingbirds survive on nectar, and sugar water is what you put out in bird feeders for them as a substitute. If you had a hummingbird as a best friend, like the guy in the cartoon, you’d order him a drink from the barista, too. (I have a hummingbird feeder, but I’m not sure how to hang it.)

I love to watch hummingbirds at feeders, and they are fascinating – very territorial. They are one of the smartest birds, too, believe it or not, even with that teeny tiny little brain. One followed me home from my favorite bird-watching site outside, and showed up the next day at my kitchen window! Wow!

About the cartoon

About the coffee order: I think it’s only in Starbucks that customers order grande anything, and it’s certainly the only coffee shop where people speak French-English to order. Whoo-hoo. And that server does NOT look like a barista.
