If You Go on the Dating Diet, You’ll Probably Die

Last week’s cartoon was about recognizing talent and ability in a person struggling with addiction. Never give up. Miracles happen.

female skeletonToday’s cartoon is a little macabre, but it brings up two subjects I’m passionate about: relationships (specifically, dating), and body image (or dieting, to those of us who like to speak plainly.)

Maybe if one doesn’t work out, the other one will. It’s true, waiting is not the same as being patient, but do you really have time for either one?

Of course, the woman could take the initiative and make the phone call to the man herself, if it isn’t too late. (Feminism is alive.)  And patience is a requirement in a mature relationship, so that’s a good quality to work on. But dating doesn’t always bring out our best selves…

This cartoon was originally published in the late, lamented, PsychCentral. I had a lot of fun coloring it in Photoshop, smearing the black outline and adding some scrumble in the shadows.

I do like to draw skeletons.

Q. Is she a zombie?

A. Yes, I like to think she is. And once the phone finally rings, she will be both thinner, and have a nice dinner date to look forward to.

It’s a two-fer this week. Coming soon: a cartoon on Osama bin Laden and 3 ladies in a bar. When he died, someone cried.
