Beverly Hills is different, for smokers, too.

Beverly Hills garden

I had to go see my dentist (just a checkup!) in Beverly Hills last week. (Sometimes I wish there was something ELSE I could do in Beverly Hills, because it’s a trek to get there, but WHAT??)

Anyway, when I turned onto Beverly Blvd, there was one of those green electronic traffic warning signs, with a different kind of warning: “No Smoking in a vehicle when a minor is with you. Fines are enforced.”

I couldn’t believe it! I hate smoking anywhere, and can smell a cigarette a block away, but isn’t this getting a little close to…home? In your private car? Where are the whiners libertarians on this?

But then when I got home I looked it up, and it’s a state law, not just Beverly Hills, passed Jan 1, 2008. Well, why can’t the rest of LA put up threatening signs, too, then? Silver Lake wouldn’t mind being told what to do, I bet. I hate living in a city of wimps.

  1. Same thing in Maine. No smoking in a car with a minor up to the age of 16. Maine is california East.
