Toto, we’re not in LA anymore!

Well, you know we ARE, because we don’t like to drive all that much. But this could be a mountain town! Almost same perspective as the one below, but a sunnier day. It’s Brand Blvd, in Atwater, and I looked it up on the map and I’m almost certain the mountain is Mt. Olympus!

I mean Mt. Wilson, of course, almost as cool. Do click it.

Atwater as cool mountain town.

Thumbnail below is the lovely Hyperion Bridge, that I take driving to my neighborhood PO. The PO, charmingly enough, is called Griffith Park Station, even though it is firmly set in Atwater. (And the manager there is so bad that I have had to have several conversations with the Post Office General in LA…)

Sedimentary layers. The bright spring green is the manicured lawns of Forest Lawn, East, and goes on up to some damn mountain.

Griffith Park is the 2nd biggest park in the US, and I'm just the person to investigate it! I've lived here for over 25 years. I was part of the PROS Committee in Griffith Park Neighborhood Council and am on the Housing & Tenants Rights Committee in the Silver Lake NC. I'm in the LA Press Club, and you can find some of my articles in the LA Weekly and the Los Feliz Ledger. I'm a cartoonist for Parade Magazine, The New Yorker, LA Times, Slate, & most major media. Questions and contacts welcome.
