Silver Lake is once again a lake! Excellent News!
Late this afternoon a state official called to tell me LADWP has promised to start refilling Silver Lake at 8 AM on Wednesday. There will be a press conference. Why? Self-aggrandizement. I was very happy to get the news, but you heard it here first: I predict (very unhappily) that they will drag out the refilling until it finishes on their all important target date of June 1. That way, they can spin H. David Nahai as a winnah twice: for doing such a great favor to the community as giving back the emergency water he took out, and for being a man of his word who sets and keeps…

“Some kind of scientist” talks about the Silver Lake draining.
Julian Harris-Calvin, Councilman Tom LaBonge’s assistant, a cheerful girl with a very busy schedule, said Marty Adams, “some kind of scientist” for the LADWP, would call me. He didn’t. I finally got him the next week. We talked for a good 40 minutes. Surprise -he’s not a scientist! He said he is an engineer. He’s also a PR spokesman for LADWP, and I see him quoted a lot in the media. So just keep this in mind. Most Wanted by the
LAPD ! No, I mean the LADWP!!!OH MY GAH!!!!!!! One might think that H. David Nahai, newly crowned king of dwp, might be first on everyone’s mind as a bad guy after the recent well -publicized promise to raise rates, and he’s my personal fave bad guy for his draining of Silver Lake, and refusal to give it back. (Hmm. Well, that could still be true.) But who’s most wanted now? Moi!!!! Remember that SNL skit when Dan Aykroyd suggests giving kids a bag of rocks for Christmas? I guess someone gave them to the DWP. They’ve been up for almost 2 months. Silver Lake is surrounded by a 15′ fence (I think) and barbed wire,…

LAFD needs Silver Lake to be refilled for fire emergencies.
I just talked with Inspector Travis of the LAFD for this area, and he said there is a fire in Elysian Park at this very minute where they could have used slk water. Oh well, too bad. We don’t have any. I went to a meeting last night in Griffith Park, and they are setting up a commemorative this week about the Griffith Park fire exactly a year ago. The vast majority of water to put that out came from Silver Lake. Hope we don’t have any more commemoratives for fires in the park, or anywhere. This time we don’t have the water. Captain Miyagishima called to reassure me that…
