I’ve forgotten, which fire are we in now?

More importantly, who set the Station Fire? If you tell me, I’ll share the $150,000 reward with you, 50- 50. It’s unbelievable, this wretched fire is still burning in places, several weeks later. KHTS: The Station Fire is 94 percent contained, with full containment now expected September 22. So far, the incident has consumed 160,557 acres of the Angeles National Forest which has not seen major fire activity in more than 40 years. It is the largest fire in the recorded history of Los Angeles County and the 10th largest in California history. As it turns out, my cartoon below I did for Slate is right; there was an arsonist,…

Random coyotes tortured and killed in Griffith Park.

Today I saw visitors come here looking for “coyotes killed in Griffith Park” and I knew my day was ruined, even with the start of Dancing with the Stars tonight. From LA Unleashed, an LA Times blog: Two recent incidents in which people were bitten by coyotes in Griffith Park have caused wardens to take an unfortunate step: dispatching U.S. Department of Agriculture wildlife services trappers to kill some of the park’s coyotes. The second bite happened Wednesday, when a man apparently napping near the park’s Travel Town section said he awoke to find a coyote biting his foot. He was not seriously injured, wildlife biologist Kevin Brennan of the Fish…

LAFD Fail in the Station Fire.

I started this blog because of fire, and I’m picking it up again for the same reason. This time it’s the Station Fire. What, you expect me to just stand by while once again terrible things happen in LA because the city can’t take care of the Fire Department? I live in LA proper, and at this moment I can see over 20 separate fire peaks blazing in 5 different areas in the San Gabriel Mountains, La Canada, and whatever mountains and hills are out that way. And this has been happening for 4 days now. Even worse,  is that 2 firemen were killed as their truck rolled over near…

Rainbow over Atwater! And other celestial happenings.

The rain, one day’s worth on Monday, made LA a little more beautiful. Within a few minutes I took both pictures. The first is fog shrouding the top of Griffith Park, making it look like some exotic European country. You can’t even see the ugly ugly hillsides, the same soylent green that they’ve been for over a year and a half now. (The idea was to stop non-native weeds from growing – they sprayed gunk on with helicopters. Okay, good intention, but it only works if we get rid of all the bad non-native plants already in the park. Any progress report on that, people? In our meetings, I was…
